Rhubarb, almond, plum and yogurt cake – a celebration

Rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb.

It’s what we used to say to make ‘noise’ on stage. A generic blurbling;  all sound, no fury.

There’s been a bit of blurbling going on over here too. It’s good noise.

I may have dropped a hint at the close of last year about some good things percolating. This is  about one of them (no Mum, don’t get too excited, I’m not pregnant – yet).

But I am baking something.

I think it’s at the point where it’s ok to talk about it in public.

Am pretty chuffed to say I’m working on my first book. It will be published by Ryland Peters Small and should be on shelves early next year.

Greetings from beneath the fog of two ‘not-so-silent Artist Martinis‘

(in hindsight, one probably would have been enough).

The party is over.

The popcorn leis have been tumbled into the rubbish.

The Oscar Ballots have been checked off and marked, with wins, losses – and a few stray drips of ‘Midnight in Paris’ Coq au vin.

The scoreboard is up on the window.

Tom won, again. I think I came in third.  I’m trying not to get too bitter about it.

I went with my heart for Best Actor; I really thought it was George’s year.

I was wrong.

It was a small but sweet soirée. We crowded  into the flat (next year I think we’ll need …

Some people have Halloween. Others celebrate Valentines Day with a bang. For us, it’s all about Oscars.

For the past seven years we have hosted an Oscars party. 

We know the politics of the awards are fraught. We know all the cynical retorts. But there is something undeniably escapist about it as a spectacle.

And we also, just really like movies.

The awards are pinnacle of a month long festival.  Before it there’s a whirlwind few weeks where we try and see as many of the nominated films as possible.

Then we brainstorm dishes to match the films nominated for Best Picture.
